Federal media sanitization

Every drive is cleared, purged, or destroyed

Cryptographic erasure, magnetic degaussing, and hydraulic shearing, with the outcome recorded against the drive serial before anything leaves the bench.

Plays on its own; hover or drag to open the drive. Rendered illustration of media inspection before sanitization.

How the path is chosen

Media type and functional health decide the route. Healthy drives that will be remarketed take the firmware erase their controller supports. Drives that fail diagnostics, and drives under a client destruction mandate, skip the wipe entirely and go to the punch.

High-density multi-pass wipe backplanes

Oblitero, our in-house bare-metal sanitization engine, talks straight to SAS, SATA, NVMe, and Fibre Channel controller microcode. It runs the NIST SP 800-88 Rev. 2 Purge command set, reads back the logical block address range it wrote, and carries no per-drive licence cost to you.

Hydraulic mechanical platter punch

The press drives hardened conical pins through the cast aluminum chassis, the drive motor, and the platters. What comes out the other side is a deformed casing and fractured media, confirmed by sight at the punch station and recorded against the serial.

Processing tiers

In-house multi-pass purge

Oblitero runs the NIST SP 800-88 Rev. 2 Purge command set across the addressable range and verifies what it wrote.

  • SATA, SAS, NVMe and Fibre Channel
  • Sector-by-sector verification check
  • Serialized drive manifest output

Magnetic degaussing

For defective or obsolete magnetic media, a degaussing field collapses the magnetic domains along with the manufacturer servo tracks, which leaves the drive unusable.

  • Aligned to DoD 5220.22-M expectations
  • Applied to magnetic media only
  • Recorded against the drive serial number

Hydraulic mechanical punch

Physical destruction behind a polycarbonate shield, through the chassis, platters, and controller board.

  • Physical platter deformation
  • Visual confirmation at the station
  • Direct downstream refining routing

Need drives destroyed rather than wiped?

Tell dispatch which outcome your policy requires, Clear, Purge, or Destroy, and the bench works to it. Either way the lot returns as a serialized certificate you can look up online.
